Fan doesn't work

Hello everybody,

Today I received the "UltraZed-EG Starter Kit" (UltraZed-EG IO Carrier Card: Rev 1-01-05).
I assembled it and put it into operation, or wanted to put it into operation.

I am following the "Getting Started Guide".
This means that I have set the jumper JP1 of the carrier board, the jumper JP1 on the SOM was not present / plugged.

When I switched on the board, the RST_N LED (D4) flashed very briefly on the SOM.
On the carrier board the DP PG (D3), PG Module (D9), VIN HDR (D10) and PS LED (D15) LEDs have been lit continuously.
When the boot process from the SD card was completed, as you could see at the login prompt in TeraTerm, the PS LED (D15) of the carrier board started flashing.

These things seem to be ok, but unfortunately the fan does not work.
I switched off the board at the login screen, because I do not know if the board gets too hot without an active fan.
During operation I measured the voltage between the pins + VFAN and GND of the carrier board. Unfortunately there was no voltage / measurable.

Where is the problem, or how can you solve it? The fan has to rotate from the beginning or is it temperature dependent?
To what extent can I use the board without a working fan without the ZYNQ overheating?

What is the voltage at pin2

What is the voltage at pin2 of the JP5 (Fan Header) on the IO Carrier Card?

Measured Voltage

During operation I measured the voltage in the area of 0,00... V between the pins + VFAN (Pin2/red wire) and GND (black wire) of the JP5 (Fan Header) on the IO Carrier Card.

Can you measure the voltage

Can you measure the voltage at C116 on the Carrier Card? This cap is placed on the top near the U27 voltage regulator.

Andreas and I deal with the same problem. I measured 9.77V on the side of the voltage regulator and  between 5.0V to 5.5V on the other side

Hi All,
The fan should turn on when the board is powered on. The fan is directly driven by the +5.0 volt rail and does not have a thermal switch. Please measure the voltage at ferrite bead FB7 on the carrier card. You should measure +5.0 volts. If there is voltage there the carrier is operating normally. We have had cases where the fan's wires pull out of the connector. Please push the wires in with a small flathead screwdriver to make the connection. If the fan does not turn on, please test the fan, while disconnected from the board, with a +5.0V power supply and report back.

the ferrite bead was not soldered properly. So the electric circuit wasn't closed. After I fixed that the fan worked perfectly.
