How to access GPIO at speed of minimum 100 MHz

Hi,
I am new to ZYNQ based development. So, I need help in understanding basics of PS-PL interface, its maximum speed and working.
I want t access the GPIOs of the miniZed board at a very high speed (min. 100 MHz - max ???). Which interface can help me achieve this (please also mention max. speed)?
I have tried using AXI bus as well as EMIO and used the Arduino headers as GPIOs. But the maximum write/read speed I have achieved is ~4 MHz (for both the interfaces). I don't understand why is speed restricted to 4 MHz.
I have referred ug-585 and miniZed user manual for reference.
