UltraZed SOM Power Regulator Shunt

Hello Everyone,

Recenlty shipped UltraZed SOM's were shipped with the JP1 shunt installed. This in turns disables the on-board regulators preventing the SOM from functioning.

Please verify that your UltraZed SOM does not have the JP1 shunt installed. If the JP1 shunt is installed, then please remove the shunt from your UltraZed SOM.

Thank you,

Josh

What about the guide?

Josh,

My UltraZed-EG starter Kit - Getting Started instructions:

4. Install a jumper on the IO Carrier Card JP1.

But either way my kit does not work as I reported in the other thread.

Hello James,

Hello James,

The way we have solved this issue is by removing the JP1 shunt that was installed on the SOM not the carrier Card. Please remove the JP1 shunt from the UltraZed SOM and report back.

Thank you,

Josh

Hello James,

Hello James,

You reinstalled the jumper JP1 onto the IO carrier Card correct? You can find the hardware setup on the UltraZed Getting Started Guide page 8.

JOsh,

JOsh,

Yes I reinstalled the JP1 on the carrier. No change, no boot!
I used the guide to set up, but there are 3 JP on the SOM. And you have told me to change JP1.
And at least 10 on the carrier card. What about these? All but JP1  aren't mentioned.
What about the fact the the fan isn't powered?

Thanks for your help.

Same Problem

Hi Josh,
I recieved new UltraZed last week. but this has same problem.

  lit D10 only.
  No terminal response.
  Fun is not powerd.
  w/, w/o JP1 shunt is no effect.
  SW2 = 1110 and  1010 and 0101 w/SD card is no effect.
      ( ultrazed_eg_starter_kit_getting_started_guide_v1_1  p.8 photo SW2 position as 0xA? but p.9 explained as 0x5(typo?) )
  Other JP position as,
     JP2, J14, JP6 = 1
     J1, 2,13,15 = not 1
     no jumper for JP7
I would like to know to solve.

Hello Gouthman,

Hello Gouthman,

Just to double check, your removed the JP1 shunt from the SOM and not the IO Carrier Card correct? Also you are using the Power Supply that came with your development kit correct?

It was the same for me. I

It was the same for me. I followed the Instructions on the Quick Start Card and later on the Getting Started Guide and checked everything multiple times. After a while of playing around, I installed the screws, which are shipped with the UltraZed Started Kit, to tie the SOM to the Carrier Card. Then everything worked properly

Had the same problem.

Had the same problem.
JP1 on the SOM (not IO Carrier Card) was installed.
Removed it and now everything is working.

Can Confirm This Works

Recently received UltraZed Dev kit. Followed the instructions and when powered up, only the green LED D10 VIN HDR near the input power connector lit up. Everything else including the fan was dead.
Once I stopped panicking and turned to Google I found my way to this forum and can confirm that the solution here worked for me.
Be aware there are two JP1s, one of them is a vertically orientated jumper on the IO Carrier Card, the other is a much smaller right angle one on the UltraZed SOM itself.
The Getting Started Instructions that shipped with the kit instruct you to install JP1 on the IO Carrier Card. This is correct. When I received the IO Carrier Card, JP1 was fitted so that it only connected to one pin of JP1. I turned it round to match the orientation of J1 and J2 on the carrier card so that it fitted both pins.
The solution here refers to JP1 on the SOM, the small right angle jumper. With the SOM fitted to the IO Carrier Card and the Ethernet port to your right, it is located on the top right hand corner of the SOM. I removed the jumper and on the next power up, everything sprang to life, including the fan. I now have two green LEDs near the power connector, the flashing red PS LED as well as two yellow LEDs near the SD card connector and a green one near the JP1 of the IO Carrier Card. With the Tera Term Console I could see Linux booting up to a prompt.
Thanks for the help.
