USB Errors on PetaLinux 2014.4

Hello,
I'm currently using the Mini-ITX board with the Zynq-7100 SoC. I followed the USB booting guide and was successfully able to boot a petalinux kernel and Linaro Ubuntu image off of USB. The problem is, whenever I try doing anything that uses the USB heavily I get a kernel panic. Here is the start up log followed by the actual error message that appears whenever I try running an image processing application:

Tough problem

Hi,

  I'm afraid that you may be experiencing the darker side of working with open source code.  When it comes to mixing kernel versions with user-space, any number of things can go wrong, and the root cause may have nothing to do with the actual failure you are seeing.   You are doing the right thing by reaching out, but unless someone has specific experience doing exactly what you are attemping then I think you are going to be largely on your own determining a resolution.

What may be useful is to try to isolate the problem to a specific component.  For instance, I would begin by booting up a standard kernel and seeing if you can replicate the problem using the USB drive as the secondary boot source.   If you can replicate the problem, then at least the issue is isolated to a specific kernel release, and you can search for reported USB issues against that version.

But I suspect that you may be exceeding the capability of the underlying USB driver to handle the data rates necessary for housing a desktop file system on USB by running the Linaro Ubuntu user space. 

Have you tried using the original 2014.4 images on this site for the Mini-ITX, to see if you have any issues reading/writing large files from USB
